Lori Cao, MA LMFT
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I completed my graduate degree through the Minnesota School of Psychology at Argosy University. I’m an EMDR Certified Therapist with a specialty in addictions and trauma as it impacts individuals and their loved ones. Additionally, I offer support to mental health professionals as an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, AAMFT and Minnesota Board Approved Supervisor, in addition to a Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy Approved Supervisor.
I work with couples, individuals, and families to address a variety of concerns such as conflicts, communication, intimacy, finances, parenting, affairs/betrayals, addictions, and mental health struggles such as depression, anxiety, compulsive behaviors and other mood disorders. I've been trained in Discernment Counseling; a treatment approach for couples considering divorce but are seeking more clarity and confidence about the decision. I specialize in chemical and/or sexual addiction and work both individually and with the couple/family to provide treatment and healing. Additionally, I also specialize in treating unaddressed significant or traumatic events that impact health and well-being in a way that is productive and strengthens relationships. My approach is to create an environment to foster mutual collaboration, transparency, support, empowerment, and respect.
I have extensive experience helping couples, individuals and families struggling with the interconnectedness of mental health, addictions and repairing of relationships. My experience working with inpatient and outpatient mental health and chemical dependency programs has afforded the opportunity to witness, time and again, how hard couples, individuals, and families strive to be happy and have loving reliable relationships. This is true for all of us. Life presents challenges we are unprepared to handle, distracts from attending to priorities, or derails from achieving our goals.
